The Alcove is a fictional vacation spot on Vancouver Island based on a real beachfront cottage property I visit. I wanted to create a narrative focused on the property's history and the families who have been visiting for generations. The use of scalloped edge frames is inspired by the family photo albums in which the history of The Alcove can be found. Type choices and wood-carved style illustrations reflect the material of the log cottages while the natural setting is captured in the muted colour palette.
